Subproject III: Visualization and quantitative analysis of sequentiality, dynamics and complexity

The main focus of this subproject is the development of meaningful visualizations of the conversation structures as well as the quantitative analysis of the data. In particular, the focus is on the sequentiality and interactivity of the peer conversations, as well as the complexity of the arguments and argumentations. Within the project, tools will be developed and tested that allow to visually explore the complex conversation data, to identify patterns and thus to generate hypotheses that can then be qualitatively and quantitatively tested. Second, quantitative methods will be tested and used. Based on the annotations of the data that are grounded in conversation analysis, hypotheses about differences in argumentative practice depending on various factors such as task type and grade level can thus be empirically tested. In close cooperation with the other subprojects, an empirically based reconstruction of competence levels in oral argumentation at primary school age is aimed at, which fruitfully combines both qualitative and quantitative approaches from the perspective of conversation analysis.
